The Great Outdoors
The main reason you came to Big Bear in the first place, right? A short brisk walk or bike ride has you arriving at the base of Snow Summit within minutes for your adventurous day on our four-season mountain!
Snow Skiing and Snowboarding
We are situated to nearby Big Bear Mountain Resorts. Big Bear Mountain resorts is Southern California's premier skiing and snowboarding venue. Enjoy the inter-mountain shuttle for transportation between Snow Summit and Bear Mountain. Snow Summit offers family-style snow skiing and snowboarding while Bear Mountain is one of the nation's premier snow parks. Plus both resorts offer a variety of apres ski entertainment!
Big Bear is surrounded by miles and miles of trails and paths. Grab your mountain bike, hiking boots or snow shoes and wander through the staggering amount of endless mountain trails! Visit the Big Bear Trails Foundation website for details and maps.
If you have a capable vehicle, explore the more than 600 miles of dirt roads and trails that meander the wilds of the Big Bear Valley. Truly remarkable! If not rent a self-drive jeep or take a guided tour. If you have OHV’s (licensed only - no green tags) you will be in heaven!
Big Bear offers world class mountain biking and cycling. Take a leisurely pedal around the area on many of our newly created bike paths. The Alpine Pedal Path on the North Shore is a great spot to pedal (or stroll) with the family and the youngsters.
Snow Summit offers lift accessed trails and a mountain bike park during the summer and fall months. There are also miles and miles of single track trail to enjoy. The newly created Skyline Trail is one not to miss! Trail maps can be purchased at any of the area bike shops.
The Big Bear Cycling Association has group rides for all levels and offers both mountain and road biking rides. This is a great way to join up with locals and learn about the favorite spots to ride. Check out their website at BigBearCycling.com.
The Big Bear Lake Village
The Village is conveniently located and offers a variety of choices in dining, entertainment and shopping. A five minute drive brings you to the center of our mountain community. Park your car in any of the free parking areas and enjoy a stroll on Pine Knot Boulevard and Village Drive. You'll enjoy warm fire pits, hot chocolate or an irresistible ice cream cone!
Don't let our small mountain community fool you. Big Bear offers plenty of entertainment venues. The Cave on Village Drive hosts plenty of musical talent, comedy shows and movie screenings. Check out the calendar of events at: The Cave Big Bear. Also, the Big Bear Performing Arts Center is a 400 seat, state of the art theater which also hosts live productions and various entertainment. There is some amazing talent in Big Bear! Don't miss it!
Big Bear also has many options for dining. If you happen to be here on a Thursday evening you'll be lucky to slide into an open seat at the beautiful lake view bar at The Pines. You won't want to miss the stunning mountain sunset views and some lovely live jazz that will leave Snoopy dancing in your head through the night.
If you're in the mood for something a little more scaled down, check out some of the great local bars in town. Murray's, Chads and Sandy's are great spots to watch the game and relax with friends. Insider scoop: Murray's has great burgers and the fish and chips at Sandy's are to die for!
Down the road in Big Bear City, check out The Other Room for “open mic” night. You'll be amazed with the local color and musical artistry. It's not to be missed...really! PS: The Other Room is adjacent to No Name Pizza - no name, just great taste!
There are several area spas for you to relax and rejuvenate at. They offer facials, massage and various other services. It's best to make appointments well in advance during the peak seasons. PS Daniel at Mountain Mobile Massage is one of our favorites!
The Big Bear Zoo
The Big Bear Alpine Zoo is just around the corner in Moonridge. Enjoy a heartwarming visit with some of the most incredibly beautiful and intriguing creatures! Our zoo is one of only two Alpine zoos in the US! They also have a rescue and rehabilitation program. Read about their success stories on their site.
Don't miss the opportunity to see and learn about a real “big bear” - the family of rescued grizzly bears will have you smiling ear to ear! Raccoon Saloon is not to be missed! The invaluable knowledge and compassion you'll gain will leave you excited to return again and again, especially when their new and improved zoo opens in 2018.
Yes Big Bear even offers a golf course over in Moonridge (adjacent to the zoo!). Warm up your swing and play nine holes of golf at our alpine golf course tucked in the woods. Mind you there won't be any golf during the winter months, but we trust that you'll be enjoying your days on the slopes anyway!

Yes there is even a lake to enjoy too! There are several marinas and launch ramps for easy access to the lake. Enjoy our warm summer days out on the lake - boating, paddleboarding, kayaking, jet skiing, water skiing or wakeboarding - it's all out there for you to enjoy. Or just enjoy yourself and soak up some high-altitude sunshine!
